It was a big night at Hillside Stadium on Saturday as Kamloops United FC hosted Unity FC in front of one of the largest and loudest crowds of the season. With dozens of BC Soccer B Cup Provincial teams in attendance and free admission thanks to LN Group, the stage was set for an unforgettable evening — and both matches delivered.
The women were first to take the field and put in a determined performance. Cara Freeman brought the crowd to life with the first goal of the game. Unity later tied it and Kamloops pushed for a winner but ultimately settled for a 1–1 draw. It was another step forward for a group that continues to show resilience and fight, especially in front of their home fans.
As the sun set and the lights came on, the men’s side took over and produced one of the most dramatic finishes of the season. After falling behind midway through the second half, Kamloops stayed patient and kept pushing. In stoppage time, Dylan Hooper buried a clutch equalizer to secure a 1–1 draw and salvage a crucial point in the playoff race. The goal sent the home crowd into a frenzy and capped off a night that was about more than just the scoreboard.
Saturday wasn’t just about the results. With youth teams from across the province watching from the stands — many of them taking part in pre-game ceremonies — the event was a celebration of soccer in Kamloops.
With just two matches left in the regular season, both Kamloops United teams will look to carry this momentum into the final stretch. The men remain in the playoff hunt, while the women continue to have a solid second half of the season.
