Kamloops United FC embarks on their first road trip of the 2025 League1 BC season this weekend, traveling to the Island to face Nanaimo United FC in a match that carries deep meaning. This fixture marks Leg 1 of the second annual Reid Davidson Charity Shield, a two-leg competition created to honour the life and legacy of Reid Davidson — a player, leader, and friend whose impact still resonates deeply in both Kamloops and Nanaimo soccer communities.
Reid grew up playing rep soccer in Kamloops before attending Vancouver Island University and later working for Nanaimo United. His connection to both clubs was personal and profound, and this annual matchup is a way for the soccer world to remember him through the game he loved.

Reid’s father, Mike Davidson, shared what the Charity Shield means to their family:
“Losing Reid is a nightmare that we will always live in. Having things to honour and remember Reid helps bring some joy and peace. With Reid's deep connection to both clubs, this is a special way to do just that.”
On the field, Kamloops United’s men’s team enters the weekend in top form, sitting 1st in the League1 BC standings with a 2-0-1 record. The team remains unbeaten and has built a strong early-season foundation with solid performances at both ends of the pitch.
The women’s team is still looking for their first win of the campaign. After three straight defeats to start the season, they’ll be focused on finding a rhythm and executing a complete performance as they continue to develop cohesion and confidence.
Nanaimo United FC, formerly known as Harbourside FC, has had a challenging start to their season. The men's team holds a 0-2-1 record. The women's team also stands at 0-3-0 heading into this one, both women's sides will be fighting for their first points of the season.
Sunday’s match is more than just a competition — it’s a celebration of community, connection, and the enduring spirit of Reid Davidson. Both clubs will be playing for more than points as they honour his memory in the most meaningful way possible: through the beautiful game.
The Second Leg will be played in Kamloops on June 22 at Hillside Stadium.
