There’s no easing back into League1 BC action for Kamloops United FC this weekend. After a mixed pair of results in Coquitlam, both the men’s and women’s teams are back on the road—this time heading to Burnaby for a crucial Saturday doubleheader at Burnaby Lake West.
For the men’s side, it’s a match with real implications. Kamloops currently sits fifth in the table with 16 points from 12 matches (5 wins, 1 draw, 6 losses). After a disappointing 2–0 loss to Evolution FC last weekend, they find themselves in a tight mid-table pack where every result counts. Standing in their way is a well-organized Burnaby FC side, currently fourth with 22 points from 12 games. Burnaby have been one of the strongest teams in the league, earning six clean sheets in the process.
But Kamloops have firepower of their own—and a midfield engine that continues to impress. Wyatt Lyon, who has been one of the driving forces in the center of the park all season, was recently named to the League1 BC Team of the Month for June. His vision, work rate, and leadership have been key to KUFC’s best performances this year, and he’ll once again be central to their efforts on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the women’s side will look to build on a gritty 1–1 draw against Evolution FC last weekend—a bright spot in what’s been a tough season. Currently sitting at the bottom of the table with 4 points from 12 matches, the group showed signs of life thanks to a second-half equalizer from Grace Barrett, who found the net to earn their first point since early May and earn herself a place in the League1 BC Team of the Week.
They’ll face a Burnaby FC women’s team that sits in 7th in the standings with 11 points from 12 matches. For Kamloops, it’s a chance to show resilience and to begin writing a different kind of story as the season winds down.
While both squads find themselves in very different situations, the message is the same: points are on the line, and there’s still everything to play for.
Kickoff is set for Saturday, July 6th at Burnaby Lake West. The women kick off in the early afternoon, followed by the men shortly after.
